“Power and wealth are not two of my main stakes.” – Ratan Tata

It is with profound sorrow that we bid farewell to Shri Ratan Naval Tata, who passed away on 9th October 2024 at the age of 86. A visionary leader, Ratan Tata’s life and career were marked by remarkable achievements, profound humility, and an unwavering commitment to the betterment of society.

Ratan Tata’s journey with the Tata Group began in 1961 on the shop floor of Tata Steel. Rising to the position of chairman in 1991, he transformed the conglomerate into a global powerhouse, expanding its footprint to over 100 countries and significantly increasing its revenue and profits. Under his stewardship, iconic acquisitions such as Tetley, Jaguar Land Rover, and Corus repositioned the Tata Group on the global stage.

Beyond his business acumen, Ratan Tata was an amazing philanthropist. His contributions to education, healthcare, and rural development have left an indelible mark on millions of lives. Through the Tata Trusts, he ensured that a substantial portion of the group’s income was dedicated to charitable causes, embodying the ethos of corporate social responsibility long before it became a corporate buzzword.

Ratan Tata’s legacy is not merely confined to the boardroom. His genuine humility, integrity, and visionary outlook inspired countless individuals within and outside the Tata Group. He was a mentor and guide to many, always leading by example and upholding the highest standards of excellence and ethics.

Below are some wonderful quotes by the great soul Shri Ratan Tata:

“I’ve often felt that the Indian tiger has not been unleashed.

“I followed someone who had very large shoes. He had very large shoes. Mr. J. R. D. Tata. He was a legend in the Indian business community. He had been at the helm of the Tata organization for 50 years. You were almost starting to think he was going to be there forever.”

“I have always been very confident and very upbeat about the future potential of India. I think it is a great country with great potential.”

“Apart from values and ethics which I have tried to live by, the legacy I would like to leave behind is a very simple one – that I have always stood up for what I consider to be the right thing, and I have tried to be as fair and equitable as I could be.”

“My most visible goal is to do something in nutrition to children in India, and pregnant mothers. Because that would change the mental and physical health of our population in years to come.”

“I may have hurt some people along the way, but I would like to be seen as somebody who has done his best to do the right thing for any situation and not compromised.”

“There are many things that, if I have to relive, maybe I will do it another way. But I would not like to look back and think what I have not been able to.”
