My Peace and I

There was once a photo contest in which the entrants had to submit one picture shot by them. The pictures submitted for the contest had to visually express a particular list of keywords. The keywords were: -Calm -Serene -Bliss -Peace

The competition attracted photographers from all over the country. Among them were some renowned photographers too. The entries included spellbinding pictures ranging from those of breathtaking snow-peaked mountains to coral islands, open vast deserts to lush valleys, cute children to stunningly pretty women, and of dare-devil youngsters such as one of a young couple standing on the edge of the roof of a skyscraper with the fascinating skyline of the city for a backdrop.

The judges felt that almost all the photographs were too beautiful to be true and therefore found it extremely challenging to select the award-winning photograph. As the organisers were on the verge of coming to the conclusion that it would be one particular picture of an extraordinarily gorgeous woman seated in a meditative posture on the bank of a river flowing through a magnificent mountain range, they were taken aback as they were informed that the judges had unanimously selected for the best picture award a rather ordinary picture shot by a high school student.

It was a picture of a group of huts in a visibly arid village that appeared so barren as if it had not rained there for a couple of years. The picture had nothing such as trees, flowers, mountains, water or anything that is usually considered to be pleasing to the human eye. On being asked why the picture was chosen, one of the judges pointed out the keywords that were given. They were Calm, Serene, Bliss and Peace.

The judge then asked the organiser who asked the question to take a closer look at the picture. The photograph had a group of village huts and outside one of the huts on the right side bottom corner of the photograph, sat a village woman on the ground with a group of about ten little children before her. She seemed to be telling the children either an interesting story or something pleasant or funny. The woman as well as all the children appeared cheerful and truly happy. In the foreground was a little boy who appeared to be running towards the group of the teacher and the children as if he were late for the lesson. The boy had no shoes and was running with a torn school bag in one hand.

What struck the judges the most was that everyone in the picture was happy and content with what they had. They made the best of what they had. They were in total harmony with their surroundings. They possessed a state of mind at a fraction of the cost that most people would normally be willing to pay in order to achieve happiness through owning properties and other expensive possessions. The teacher and her pupils from the village had come to terms with their reality and had learned to derive bliss out of it. They were at peace with what life gave them.

Peace of mind is, in fact, the ultimate stage of any endeavour, be it of a benevolent nature or even that of malevolence, war, or conquest.

Think about it – What happens when you attain whatever you wished or strived for? The moment you get what you wanted, you might first scream out of excitement but once you have absorbed your new sense of achievement, you would normally heave a sigh of contentment and feel calm and peaceful. The task could be anything, but right after completing it comes great peace.

Peace – it is the one state of mind that the subconscious mind of a person, however noble, rapacious, evil or violent their intentions might be, is constantly striving to attain. Bizarre as it may sound but that is what even an evil person who hurts others wants after committing each and every gruesome act! After a tiring chase, carnivorous animals too, that hunt other animals, tend to settle down in a calm spot to savour their prey in peace.

What is peace? How can it be defined? Peace is a state which is tranquil and free from disturbance. Peace of mind is a mental state when you stop worrying about things and are truly living in the moment. You do not need to go to a mountain top or a forest to find peace. You can find it right at the place wherever a person is. That is what the village teacher and her pupils in the photograph did. What can hinder finding peace are worrying or fearing. They are invariably thoughts that are mere mental images of unpleasant or undesirable things or situations that have not taken place. This problem can be countered by coming to terms with a certain disturbing situation, at least transiently so that the process of thinking intelligently can take place for which, a peaceful mind is a primary requirement.

No matter what the cause of the mental disturbance might be, all you need to do is to come to terms with the situation, at least temporarily, and this will open your mind to intelligent thoughts, ideas or even epiphanies.

It can be said that the lack of peace of mind is caused by the internal struggle that stems from one’s own inability to cope with accepting reality. The struggle, in fact, is not with some external enemy or force but it is with a person’s own feelings. That said, a person who treats his or her mind as a mere tool that acts as an interface between their true Self and the organic body that it resides in can learn to control it with great ease and in addition to this, can also achieve mastery over it.

An easy way to treat a short temper or extreme self-consciousness leading to high levels of sensitivity would be to clearly comprehend that feeling peaceful, happy, angry, ashamed, shy, or flattered are nothing but states of the interface called the mind and not of oneself.

Remember that whenever another person causes you to lose your temper, feel hurt or insulted, it is not you but it is the other person that is controlling your ‘Self-Body Interface’ called the mind. Why on earth would you want to relinquish that power to someone else?

An important step that makes it tremendously simple to learn to master your own mind and never give its switch to someone else would be to be ever prepared for change.

Have you ever thought about why it is said that most people are not afraid of failure but they are scared of success? It is simply due to their fear of the unknown. Many people fear that success in a new venture could lead them into the unknown whereas the present however uninteresting, boring or insipid it might be, is something that they already know and are used to. It is the inherent quality of resistance to change that blocks a person from taking risks, undergoing personality makeovers, or getting to know new people. People who find themselves in dreary life situations do so primarily because they did not wholeheartedly attempt to step out of their normal routine or comfort zone. Deep within themselves, they fear that any change they made in the way they lived, or did things differently from the way they normally did, could lead them into situations that they are not prepared for, and that could disturb the status quo in their life, which they have learned to silently endure although it might not exactly be a pleasurable one.

However, people who treat life as the greatest gift, and every moment of it as splendorous opportunities to live it, experience it, celebrate it and learn from it, are never scared of anything, and do not look down upon themselves, or allow negative thoughts to creep into their Divine moments of living. When you are not scared of anything, you are never forced into desperate situations in which you feel you need to deviate from your moral standards or principles.

Resistance to change causes pain. Attachment causes pain as well as fear that can lead to anger causing the destruction of your reputation and honour.

Changes are usually caused due to two prime reasons – being forced by some situation or being inspired by someone or something. Why wait until a situation forces you to change and why not derive inspiration either from your own past achievements or from some other external source?

One thing that can guarantee peace of mind is ‘Preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.’ It has been the motto of great achievers. In the event you get the worst, you were already prepared for it and in case you get the best, you can relish it with a stable mind because you know that it could also have been the other way around.

The realisation that all beings are equally wonderful, Divine, brilliant, and magical, and that no one is hateful, straightaway floods one’s heart with love and kindness. A person of such realisation automatically becomes more loveable and is admired by all. It gives such a person a great sense of fulfillment and tranquillity.

Immediately after you let go of people or objects whose thoughts make you sad, and give up the sense of possession or ownership, comes peace. That feeling is priceless.

A person’s attachment to someone or something leads to their constant fear of losing the person or the object they love. Fear causes anger which results in the temporary numbing of their intelligence. A person in such a mental situation runs the risk of committing deeds that can cause irreparable damage to their honour and reputation.

Peace is easy to attain. All it requires apart from one’s sincere decision to want it is comprehending the truth that the mind, where all the virtual upheavals and storms take place, is not them the individual, and it is nothing beyond being a useful instrument which, when not required, needs to be either silenced or kept busy counting one’s breaths, or listening to Mantras or chanting them.

You are Divine. Your Self is Divine. It is the same Omnipresent awareness that is transitorily residing in your body made of flesh and bones. The Self is God. It is the indestructible, constant, eternal, immutable, and unimaginable ultimate reality. Beyond it, there is nothing to be known. Everything other than the Self that exists in all living beings is an illusion that will fade away into oblivion. No one has any need to worry or fear. There is nothing more real than the NOW. The past and the future do not exist. However, just as your past Karma is creating your present, should there also truly exist a future, it would make sense to invest in positive Karma through RIGHTEOUS THOUGHTS, WORDS AND DEEDS in the NOW. It is never late. Start NOW. Yours is everything in the universe because you are that. Tat Tvam Asi.

I wish you a life filled with peace, and just as the sun blesses the world with its light, may you too spread the light of knowledge and peace all around you.

The HAPPINESS SWITCH – A REFRESHER

Unhappy?

Well, until you continue to think and believe that

a. there is someone up there, who is separate from you
b. ‘cruel planets are destroying your life
c. god is ‘testing your faith or ‘punishing’ you for your past sins
d. you will be happy only if you find a soul-mate
e. life has no meaning because you do not have what or whom you want in your life
f. some guru, baba, or amma can remove all your troubles and save you from the pain or unhappiness that might be affecting you
g. once your planetary Dasha or transit changes everything will be fine
i. your spouse is a curse in your life and that your life would have been better if you had someone else for your spouse
j. wealth, position, and power are the ways to happiness
h. you have no one to love you
i. if you could ‘woo’ someone into your life as your lover, you could be happy

and so on,

you have not taken into consideration how Karma works, you are not aware of the fundamental principles of Vedanta that teaches the truth of nondualism, and you will certainly continue to be unhappy.

So many people keep writing to me, asking me when their ‘time would change’. A lot of them have either completed their periods of Saturn or are still undergoing them. I have been saying on this site for the last seven years that Vedic Astrology is a Past Karma diagnostic system and that PLANETS AND PLANETARY PERIODS DO NOT CAUSE ANYTHING IN YOUR LIFE.  Have I not been stressing the importance of studying the Srimad Bhagavad Gita and internalising the non-dualistic philosophy and the principle of Cause and Effect that it teaches? Yet, people continue asking me which temple they could go to or what ritual or ‘astrological remedy’ they could perform in order to set their lives right.

This is a general reply that I would like to give to all those who have been asking me similar questions. Let us begin by getting certain facts clear.

We are the same ALL-PERVADING SELF, BRAHMAN OR KRISHNA, that RESIDES IN CONTAINERS called BODIES. You are free to visualise the ALL-PERVADING SELF OR BRAHMAN in any form, but the fact remains that, as per Advaita Vedanta, everything is one and that there is no separate God, being, ghost, spirit, or anything else sitting up there in the clouds.

SBG 12:05 Those whose minds are set on an unmanifested and impersonal Absolute Power, face difficulties in reaching the goal. This is because people always identify with the body and when there is no perceptible form, it is difficult to perceive.

It is not the Advaita Vedanta but organised cults and religions that stand and thrive on the idea of a separate god in heaven.

SBG 10:20 I (KRISHNA) am the Self, O Gudakesha (Arjuna), situated within all living entities. I am the origin, the middle and also the end of all beings.

Avadhuta Gita 1:34 There are no Vedas, no worlds, no gods, no sacrifices. There is certainly no caste, no stage in life, no family, no birth. There is neither the path of smoke nor the path of light. There is only the highest Truth, the eternal Brahman.

In that case, who does one pray to? To ONESELF, of course! It is only because of that abstract phenomenon called EGO that one does not realise the truth that they themselves are the ALL-PERVADING SUPREME BRAHMAN or KRISHNA and therefore need to resort to various methods of ‘connecting’ with their true SELF.

Your AWARENESS is the ALL-PERVADING SELF that uses the mind as an interface between yourSELF and your senses through which you perceive what you call reality.

Unhappiness, dissatisfaction, anger, jealousy, hatred and other such destructive feelings arise from the inability TO COME TO TERMS WITH A SITUATION OR SITUATIONS – at least TEMPORARILY.

Think about it – the moment you come to terms with something that has been disturbing you, you feel fine. This is what family, friends or well-wishers do when you happen to be livid with rage due to whatever reason. They tell you to calm down and actually talk you into COMING TO TERMS WITH THE SITUATION, at least for that moment.

Happiness is a STATE OF MIND, that’s all. Learn to master your mind and find the SWITCH to YOUR OWN HAPPINESS so that you can turn it on whenever you wish, keep it on all the time and not depend on someone who would claim to truly love you and promise to be with you until the end, or on some object that can flip your happiness switch.

Your Karma, through your thoughts, words and deeds, and all that happens in your life and beyond are directly interrelated.

TAKE RESPONSIBILITY and TAKE CONTROL.

Be a RESPONSIBLE SOUL.

Those, who are serious about changing their lives might want to consider going through the following videos and posts:  They have all been created based on experience and knowledge gained through years of study. You could also simply ignore it and continue with whatever you were doing.

Stay Blessed.

Illusion and Perception

The term ‘perception’ can be defined as judgment resulting from awareness or understanding. It is a process that takes place in the mind. One of the numerous definitions of the term ‘mind’ is that it is the organised conscious and unconscious adaptive mental activity of an organism. The mind processes the data collected through the senses and judges a situation. It could be called a solipsistic thought because whatever or whoever one thinks to exist or not exist, is merely what the mind perceives and therefore, logically speaking, everything that exists, exists merely in the mind. This thought could be interpreted in many ways, one of them being that there is nothing outside of the mind. It means that how you perceive something or a situation makes all the difference. The knowledge of this truth that some people have had has helped them create organised religions in which members are forced to completely surrender their mind to the smart few who run such cults. This crucial requirement of organised religions or cults that their members should not think for themselves or read about other ways of thinking and of living life, is usually enforced through doctrinal injunctions which legalise severe punishments for those who do not follow the laws of the cult or commit heretic acts such as something even as simple as asking questions let alone extreme cases in which members who dare to quit the cult are mercilessly and brutally executed.

Whereas on the other hand, the ancient Sanatana Dharma, which is a path shown by great people of the past, leads a seeker away from ignorance, confusion and delusion towards understanding what one is or rather, what one is not. The Sanskrit expression “Neti Neti”, which can be found in ancient scriptures such as the Brihadaaranyaka Upanishad, the Chandogya Upanishad, and the Avadhuta Gita, means “Not this, not that”, “Neither this nor that”, or simply, “Not this, not this.” It has been the great philosophy behind the twin repetition of the two-syllable word that has attracted even renowned western thinkers and philosophers towards Vedanta.

Here is Shloka 25 from the 1st chapter of the Avadhuta Gita also known as the Dattatreya Gita.

Avadhuta Gita or Dattatreya Gita 1:25

तत्त्वमस्यादिवाक्येन स्वात्मा हि प्रतिपादितः।
नेति नेति श्रुतिर्ब्रूयाद अनृतं पांचभौतिकम् ॥ १.२५॥

Our own Self is asserted through sentences such as “That thou art”. Of that which is untrue and composed of the five elements – the Shruti or the scripture says, “Not this, not this.”

After a lifelong voyage of discovery through the process of negation, one evolves intellectually as well as spiritually and tends to realise that finally whatever remains is the intangible, inconceivable and indefinable, Brahman and most importantly, that the ‘realiser’ and the ‘realised’ are one and the same all-pervading eternal Self.

People undergo various stages of learning all through their life. Whether a particular learning experience is a pleasant one or a painful one totally depends on the way a person perceives it. People who are on the lower rungs of the ladder of spiritual advancement usually, tend to wish for a smooth and comfortable life and when they do not get what they want or when they face challenges in life, they cast the blame on others, on their upbringing, on god, or on their fate. It would not take beyond a person with a fair amount of intelligence to grasp that if a person’s life were truly so smooth and uneventful as they wished or prayed for, it could be excruciatingly boring and unbelievably insipid. A truly rich and fulfilling life is one with multifarious experiences and certainly not one of an extremely opulent person who neither has anything to do nor wishes to experience and learn about life.

Your state of mind is the only thing that you fully have under your control, and if you wished and strived for, you could always have it under your control. That is what wise and spiritually evolved people always do. Why would a sane person like you want to give the only power you have with you to something or to someone else? It should be you who decides whether or not you want to be happy and not some other person. There is no doubt that when someone says or does something unpleasant during one of your moments of great emotion, mental weakness, or any other situation in which you are not fully exercising the power you have on your own mind, you might tend to feel disturbed or might sense that your pride is hurt. In such situations, a simple trick that could help you would be to COME TO TERMS with the disturbing situation, at least temporarily. This will give you more time to thoroughly and intelligently analyse the inputs you receive through your senses, and process them in a saner and wiser manner. Once you have bought yourself some time by temporarily ‘COMING TO TERMS’ with the situation, and have perceived the entire scenario more pragmatically, you will be surprised to realise that had you reacted relying on your initial perception, things could have turned catastrophic for you. You will see that although the situation continues to remain the same, the difference in the way you perceived it has changed everything and that it does not disturb you the way it did earlier.

Plutarch is believed to have said nearly two millennia ago, “What we achieve inwardly will change outer reality”. Another highly popular old saying is, “Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.” Organised religions are spread by manipulating the power of perception of the masses.

The various stories of people converted into foreign cults and religions are truly distressing. The perception of people who are brainwashed and converted into foreign cults, changes overnight and they suddenly start treating their own people as miserable sinners. The love they had for their family members and close friends suddenly turns into hatred merely because they have begun to PERCEIVE things differently and therefore see them as transgressors and infidels.

Any organised religion that says that it is the only way, and that its members have to surrender their power of PERCEPTION to the governing authorities of the cult, should be avoided like the plague. As against what happens in organised religions, Krishna, towards the end of his discourse to Arjuna in the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, says:

इति ते ज्ञानमाख्यातं गुह्याद्गुह्यतरं मया |
विमृश्यैतदशेषेण यथेच्छसि तथा कुरु || १८ ६३ ||

“यथेच्छसि तथा कुरु’ Do what you wish to do

Krishna says to Arjuna: I have taught you the secret wisdom which is deeper than all that is confidential and profound. Reflect fully on what I have declared to you and do what you wish to do.

This means that the Bhagavad Gita is clearly not a book of commandments as is the case with books of organised religions. Krishna’s teachings enlighten a seeker about the general principles of nature, of universal Oneness, of the supreme knowledge of the Self in all living beings, and above all, of the natural law of cause and effect.

Organised religions exist as political tools whereas the natural way of life of the Sanatana Dharma has evolved from an extremely enormous collection of ancient writings, ideas, thoughts and experiences of great geniuses that can help people save tremendous amounts of time and effort and help them in their path towards Self realisation.

The path towards Self-Realisation can be broadly divided into three stages:

  1. God is great (Dvaita or dualism)
  2. I am a part of the Great God.(Vishishta Advaita or nondualism with special attributes)
  3. My SELF (not my Ego) is the same as God. (Advaita or nondualism)

The main task in the three major stages of this path, primarily, is to gain mastery over your mind and to arrest it from deluding you into perceiving that your SELF, that your Ego or your feeling of “I” makes you believe to be restricted to the space within the boundary of your skin, is different and separate from the rest. As against organised religions that hijack the minds of their followers, the Sanatana Dharma encourages people to ask questions, to introspect, to discover, to share their knowledge with others, and above all, to respect the whole of nature of which all living beings are straight-out the all-pervading SELF residing in physical containers called bodies.

Shri Ramana Maharshi once said, “Your own Self-Realization is the greatest service you can render the world.” Once a person reaches the third stage of realising universal oneness, they find no need for deities, rituals, or anything else that their society normally expects its members to do.

Here is Shloka 34 from the 1st chapter of the Avadhuta Gita:

1:34
वेदा न लोका न सुरा न यज्ञा वर्णाश्रमो नैव कुलं न जातिः ।
न धूममार्गो न च दीप्तिमार्गो ब्रह्मैकरूपं परमार्थतत्त्वम् ।।

There are no Vedas, no worlds, no gods, no sacrifices. There is certainly no caste, no stage in life, no family, no birth. There is neither the path of smoke nor the path of light. There is only the highest Truth, the eternal Brahman.

There are no concepts of belief or obedience in the Sanatana Dharma, unless it is some strange subsect started by someone like a ‘godman’ or ‘god woman’. One who lives life based on the principles and teachings of the Sanatana Dharma, is not forced to believe in something or obey any authority. Belief and obedience which are two most essential requirements in organised religions do not exist in the Dharmic path of seeking or rather, of discovering the path towards Universal Oneness. All that a person who wishes to evolve Karmically needs to do is to be a modest seeker. Rather than living the life of a slave in man-made cults and being bound by traditions, cultural differences, and the ‘holier than thou’ mentality; it is that highest state of bliss that comes with self-realisation that one should be aiming for. However, some people who are into religious rackets and are good at oration and one-upmanship, make a killing out of the common man’s innate desire to be told or taught what to do, and they create their own large groups of sycophantic followers thereby contributing towards the weakening of the ancient Dharmic society.

The quick and easy way to learn to master your own mind and to protect yourself from soul vultures would be to read, study and understand the Srimad Bhagavad Gita. Here is a list of the important takeaways of reading, studying and comprehending the philosophy taught in the Srimad Bhagavad Gita:

  1. that God is not some separate spirit or being up there. This understanding is easily achievable by internalising the nondualistic understanding of God taught in the scripture.
  2. that all beings are equal.
  3. that the three Gunas are the ones that cause all action. If you feel you did something wrong in the past, don’t torment yourself with thoughts of guilt. It was not you but it was your Gunas that caused those actions. Work on changing your attitude and general nature, and all will be fine.
  4. that every action has a reaction and that your past, present and future are interrelated parts of an infinite continuum. The way to influence the future would be through action and when the attitude of a person, which is basically formed by their Gunas is noble, their actions too would be noble. As per the natural law of cause and effect, noble actions get noble results.
  5. that right action is known as Nishkaama Karma which means action done with no attachment to the result of the action or to the reward that might come along with it.
  6. that love and respect for nature, and practising social responsibility are the easiest ways to follow Dharma.
  7. that shedding ego and surrendering all your thoughts, words and deeds to the Supreme all-pervading Krishna or Brahman or whatever you may call that all-pervading truth which you cannot truly define, can free you of all Karmic bondage.
  8. that the sanest way to being at peace all the time is to be prepared for anything anytime.
  9. that fate and destiny are certainly true but they can always be influenced through righteous or unrighteous thoughts. words, and deeds.

Consciousness is everywhere and in order to explain this, we could take the analogy of an earthen pot as taught in the Avadhuta Gita. When the pot is broken, the space that was there within the pot cannot be differentiated anymore from the rest of the space that the unbroken pot existed in. Similarly, just like the all-pervading space that was there in the pot before it broke, we could say that what makes living beings including humans, is a small ‘amount’ of the all-pervading consciousness or Divine Self that exists in physical bodies which are in fact ‘containers’ or ‘pots’ made of bones and flesh, and are ‘packaged’ in an epidermal material called the skin.

The mind that most of the time pretends to be the master is merely what we may call an interface between the Divine Self and the body with all its organs and functions. People who look for happiness outside of themselves are in fact, trying to get an external source of power to control the state of their own mind when the truth is that whatever or whoever the external object of happiness might be, it is purely the way one perceives it that changes the state of their mind. Sad or painful events of the past cause sadness only when you think about them. It is in the exact same way that when you think of pleasant things, you feel happy.

Of what use is all your education, experience and the vast amounts of practical knowledge you have gained in your life if you believed that the power to create your happiness was with someone else or it depended on something that you felt should take place in your life? To feel happy or not from any situation always rests with the way you perceive it.

The Ultimate Truth is that the all-pervading Self or consciousness in your person makes you Divine. YOU are it. Indeed, YOU are that. Tat Tvam Asi – and just as a sculptor reveals a beautiful piece of art hidden in a rock, your spiritual journey as a whole, is your enlightening and adventurous path towards uncovering or realising your True Divine Self that has been concealed under ego and ignorance caused by that two-faced trickster-cohabitant of yours in your  body, that you refer to as your mind.

Master your own mind and the art of perception, and the world will be yours.

Stay blessed.

The Principle of (Karma) Diagnosis and Cure

Many of our friends have been sending me emails asking me when their ‘good period’ would start. I would like to begin with a short story.

One evening as Rakesh was finishing up his work and preparing to leave for home, he sensed some discomfort caused by pressure in his chest and he fell to the ground. His colleagues immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital. He was given emergency care and a few hours later, he was told that he had suffered a mild heart attack which could have worsened and had catastrophic results had he not been brought to the medical facility in time.

Rakesh was put on a course of medication and he was advised bed rest for a week. He was given a new diet plan and asked to start with mild fitness training programmes in order to shed some extra weight that he had. The doctor assured him that if he followed medical advice and adopted a healthy lifestyle, his health would soon improve and that he would bounce back to normal life.

Meanwhile, in another part of the city, there lived a man called Prem. It was the third year since his career and social as well as family life had collapsed. As he was trying to make sense with all the unfortunate events that were happening in his life, he was advised to meet a renowned astrologer in a nearby city. After studying the natal chart of Prem, the astrologer informed him that he was undergoing a period of Saturn and that things would continue to be quite challenging for him until the end of that period. Prem was advised to alter his daily routine by adding a meditation session to it apart from going for a Sattvik diet, controlling his temper, helping others, being kind to people as well as other beings, and learning to completely shed ego.

One need not be a rocket scientist to know that healthy food and exercise can lead to good health. Similarly, it is quite understandable that healthy dietary habits, general discipline, modesty, compassion for others and for other beings, social responsibility, and complete involvement and dedication in whatever one does, can all lead to favourable events in life.

Even after repeatedly saying on this site that I consider Vedic Astrology to be merely a ‘Karma diagnosis’ tool and that I neither propound nor support the idea that planets cause events in people’s lives, I regularly receive emails from people asking me when their ‘good time’ would start.

Take a look at the story of Rakesh. It was his good past Karma that he received help at the right moment, which saved his life and if he followed the Doctor’s advice, he would become healthy again. In the same manner, if Prem would decide to pay heed to the advice he received and would work on improving his life by making positive alterations to his habits, his life too would change for the better.

Therefore, to those of you who keep requesting me to check your charts and tell you when your lives would change, I would say that the very fact that you have started the process of inquiry into your past Karma indicates your good past Karma. Do not forget that there are large numbers of people belonging to major organized religions out there, who are unaware of neither Karma nor of Dharma, and during distressing times in their lives, they are told by their religious leaders that either God is testing their faith or it is simply due to their ‘God’s mysterious ways of working’!

Let us assume for a moment that an astrologer saw your chart and predicted that your good time would commence in, let’s say, 18 months from now. Would you stop doing everything and start twiddling your thumb until then? That would certainly not be a good idea.

The realisation that you are directly responsible for whatever happens in your life is an important step towards improving your life by making smart changes in your attitude, habits, and general discipline. If you do what is in your power, Karma will surely do all that is there in its power. No astrologer, deity, godman, god woman, or any other person can influence your Karma. Your own respectable mother who bore you, brought you into this world, and raised you too cannot do it.

Self-improvement is the only sensible answer. Once you have learned your Karmic lessons and once you have made the necessary changes, things will automatically begin falling in place. The key to your future is with you. Never make the ridiculous mistake of handing it over to someone else or to some bizarre idea such as the one that planet Saturn, which is over 700 times the size of the earth, is working day in and day out to destroy you because you did not pray to God, ate meat, or in the past, you did something immoral.

Now is the moment. Dump all unwanted thoughts and debilitating negative emotions such as anger, hatred, fear, and jealousy and perform the grand act of forgiving everyone as well as yourself for all the things you feel were not right, and take over the reins of your Karmic voyage through righteous thoughts, words, and deeds.

Thank you.

Stay blessed.

Responsible Soul

Some come, some go, and some stay.

Among those who come into your life, there are some who make you happy, some who make you sad, some that hurt you, or those that just do nothing.

Among the ones that go out of your life, there are some whose exit makes you happy, some, whom you throw out of your life, and some who shatter you as they leave your life.

Among those who stay with you in your life, there are some, who, even after years of their existence in it, make no difference to it; some who transform your life into purgatory on earth, and some who beautify and enrich it with their deeds or their sheer presence in it.

Whoever they might be, all of them have one thing in common. They are all your teachers. Almost all of them, teach you something or the other that you were unaware of earlier. They could be either things you didn’t know about life or those truths about your own nature that you were ignorant of; things that you ought to do in order to have a better life, or things that you ought not to do in life.

This signifies that all sorts of experiences that you may call good or bad, which are caused by others in your life, are fundamentally learning experiences. Experiences in life often excel in academic education in making a person truly wise because besides blessing a person with knowledge, they also teach the person how to apply the knowledge that they possess.

If you consider yourself a true seeker, no experience however bitter or harsh, would ever hurt you because you would accept all of them as what I call, Seeds of Sapience.

Reasoning from this fact, of equal importance, would be to remember that just as others are teachers in your life, you too are a teacher in the lives of others.

What you do for others, with others, and to others, can have not only lasting effects in their lives but can also be ones that truly change them forever.

You might have heard of, read about, or come across people whose lives completely changed because of something that someone said to them, did not say to them. did to them or did not do them.

A simple act or gesture of yours has the potential to change the entire course of your life and also the lives of others.

Depending on what every thought, word, and deed of yours is, you can either balance past Karma or create new Karma.

It would therefore be prudent to think wisely and always be responsible and aware that with everything you think, say or do, you have the power to permanently influence the future.

Be a responsible soul.

Thank you.

Virtual Sunrise – Meditation : Tat Tvam Asi – That Thou Art

Namaste and welcome to this Virtual Sunrise Meditation Session that includes a peek into your Self to perceive your own Divinity.

Please keep a glass of water next to you and be seated in a comfortable position – preferably in the Padmasana position and shut your eyes. You will keep them closed until the end of this session, which I shall explicitly announce. In case you would like to use an eye mask, you could wear it now. Please bear in mind that during the meditation session, whenever I say open and shut your eyes, I would only be meaning your mind’s eyes.

Take three deep breaths. Inhale, Exhale. Inhale, Exhale. Inhale, Exhale. With your eyes shut, and through your mind’s eye, imagine yourself sitting at the beach facing the water. It is not dawn yet. The soft light of the starry night sky is simply enchanting. The temperature is pleasant and the sea is calm. There is no one else on the beach. You are the only one there. It is you, the sea, the sand, and the sky above. Now, through your mind’s eye, look upwards into the clear sky and look around to see if you can spot any star or constellation that you know. There – you have spotted the Great Bear or the Ursa Major with its seven bright stars that represent the seven great sages. The gentle sound created by the waves feels like divine music that is so soothing that it makes your heart feel light. You are totally at peace. You have no other thoughts in your mind except for your desire to catch the first rays of sunlight on the first day of the rest of your life.

You now look towards the horizon at the point where you expect the sun to rise. You are waiting for that miraculous moment. The glorious sun, without which no life would exist on earth. But for the life-giving sun, the earth would be an icy heavenly body hurtling through space and time. Breathe calmly. You have no fears, no anger, no hatred, no jealousy, and no bitterness. All that your heart is now filled with is a deep sense of gratitude, modesty, awe for nature, and love.

In a short while, the supreme dazzling ruler of our planetary system is about to reveal himself in all his glory. You will receive the first rays of the sun through your eyes, soothe your soul, and energise your entire body. Once you have seen the first rays of the sun, you may perceive the ruler of the sky through your closed eyelids. Sit erect, ensure that your shoulders and neck are straight. Get ready for the wondrous moment of marvel.

Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one, and it’s daybreak. The first rays of the sun enter you through your eyes. The sight of the sun-kissed waters is breathtakingly magnificent and spectacular. I bow down before you oh great sun, the giver of all life on earth, of heat, energy, food, power, and rains. Oh great one, please fill my life with your divine light, grace, power, and your care. You are in the moment and not thinking about the past or the future. Through your closed eyelids, you can feel the increasing brightness of the sun. You hear the flight songs of birds flying in the sky. You gently open your eyes and look at the blue waters. In your mind you express immense gratitude for being blessed with one more beautiful day of living, relishing, and celebrating the gift of life.

Think of your loved ones, of all those humans and other beings that matter to you the most. Wish them well and send them all your love. Let go of everything that has been burdening your mind. Forgive everyone who wronged you. The energy of the sun within you makes you greater, stronger, kinder, and more magnanimous.

The power and energy you now have, are so great, that you are radiating light, love, joy, and greatness all around you. It is now that you are almost close to realising the true and divine you in you. It is that consciousness of yours that is usually clouded by the mind, which, in fact, is your slave but pretends to be your master, and sometimes, it even convinces you that IT is YOU.

Your mind is a tool that is a system of the flow of your thoughts, and your thoughts, stem from the true nature of that real you in you. The Supreme Truth is that the You in you is that very same Supreme Divine All-Pervading Energy. You are Divine. All beings are Divine. Everything is Divine. God is not some separate entity. God is everywhere. God is in all living and nonliving beings. Look into yourself to find God.

Why look for something outside of you when you already have it in you as the You in you? You are that, that you are looking for. You are it. Tat Tvam Asi. That thou art. The truth is that the main switch that controls your power is in your mind, which is not even an organ. It is you that has the power to your own mind that is the system of the flow of your thoughts.

The mind thrives under mental energy, and mental energy comes from Love, Hate, Anger, Jealousy, which increase in quantity when they are applied. Love begets love and hate begets hate. Be wise in making your choice. Wish well for the world and for everyone. and for all beings in it. Just love, give, care, and pray for all. The happier the world, the even happier you can be.

What is happiness? Is it anything beyond a state of mind? When you know that it is a state of mind, why do you look for it outside of you? What sense does it make? Why would you want someone else or something else to make you happy? Don’t you want your mind, or rather, the system of the flow of your thoughts, to be under your control? Or would you want someone else or something to control your thoughts, your feelings, your likes and dislikes, and your true self? No! You are free! You can think for yourself. You know to perceive Divinity all around you. You know that there can be nothing or no one that is not Divine! You are that very energy. All you have to do is to recognise your own Divinity and the fact that no one is inferior to anyone. All beings are the same because Divinity exists equally everywhere. Make a promise to first love and respect yourself and have the same love as well as respect for all others. Charity begins at home.

Do not hold on to anything because everything is yours anyway since you are the True Self that pervades everything.

Now, as we prepare to end this meditation session, I would like you to take three deep breaths. Inhale, Exhale. Inhale, Exhale. Inhale, Exhale. Relax your shoulders and gently open your eyes. Those of you wearing an eye mask may now gently remove it.

You may now have the glass of water that you placed next to you and stand up.
Begin your new day, stay blessed with great health, freedom. happiness and prosperity.

Thank you.

A Run-through of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita by Tavamithram

The video had to be re-uploaded. It should be fine now.
——–

Most issues in life can be easily handled, and even the greatest of challenges can be comfortably overcome simply by altering one’s way of perceiving them. This calls for mastery over one’s own mind.

I call the Srimad Bhagavad Gita the timeless, universal, and best mind management manual ever.

This Run-through of the SBG is aimed at quickening and simplifying going through all the 18 chapters of the scripture and comprehending the basic philosophy that it teaches encompassing universal oneness, Karma, Dharma, the nondualistic philosophy of Advaita Vedanta, Fearlessness, Social Responsibility, Respect for Nature, and above all, the highly misunderstood ‘God Concept’ of the Sanatana Dharma.
The Supreme Truth exists equally in all beings thus making all beings equally Divine. There is no being that is inferior or superior to others. The Self in everyone is Krishna or the Supreme Brahman (Ref: Shloka 10:20)
Following the Divine Teachings of Krishna and learning to live the life of a true KarmaYogi are sure to guide a seeker on the path of righteousness through a rewarding and fulfilling life.
May you stay blessed with excellent health, freedom, peace, happiness, and prosperity.
