Sikhs are a wonderful community of highly disciplined people who are equally colourful and full of life. They are known for their bravery, physical strength, values, morals and for their wonderful culture and heritage.
We offer our obeisance to the great Gurus and to all those valiant Sikhs who sacrificed everything they had for India. They greatly contributed in fighting invading forces and in preventing them from converting Sanatanis (Hindus) to other foreign religion.
The term ‘Waheguru’ means the ‘Supreme Being’ and also ‘Wonderful Teacher’. The Sanatana Dharma also refers to Bhagavan Krishna as ‘Jagadguru’ which means, ‘Universal Teacher’.
Sikhs greet each other saying ‘Waheguru Ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji ki Fateh’. This means ‘Purity belongs to Waheguru, Victory belongs to Waheguru.’
The basic meaning of Khalsa is sinlessness and purity of the Creator. Those initiated into the Sikh brotherhood are pure hearted spiritual soldiers who fight for righteousness.
The Khalsa was first started by Guru Gobind Singh Ji the tenth Sikh Guru, in the year 1699 on Baisakhi day when the New Year according to Indian traditions is celebrated. The initiated men of the Khalsa who drank the immortalising nectar called ‘Amrit’, are highly disciplined and have a strict code of conduct. They are under the ‘Panj Pyaare’ or the Five Beloved Ones Bhai Daya Singh, Bhai Dharam Singh, Bhai Himmat Singh, Bhai Mokham Singh and Bhai Sahib Singh.
