Srimad Bhagavad Gita SBG 7:19

“Therefore, after innumerable births, the one who has perfected his or her wisdom, understanding fully My universal reality, surrenders to Me and such a soul is very rare.”

Aim to be that rare one, not a sycophantic follower of some cult or individual. Anyone who helps in removing ignorance, which exists due to the mind being shrouded by meaningless beliefs and illogical concepts, is a GURU, which means remover of darkness. I must admit that I have learned quite a few things from my son, and therefore, he too is my GURU.

ॐ ब्रह्मानन्दं परमसुखदं केवलं ज्ञानमूर्तिं

“My obeisance to the Guru, the Bliss of Brahman, the One who bestows Supreme Happiness and is Knowledge personified.
To the One who transcends the pairs of opposites, is vast as the sky and who is known as “That you are”.
To the One who is eternal, pure, unchanging and is the witness of the functions of the intellect.
To the One who is above all mental states and the three Gunas.
My salutations to that Divine Guru.”

Remember that everything you come across in scriptures such as the Puranas is nothing but 100% allegory. The author of the Bhagavata PuraNa has given such a clear and precise disclaimer in the scripture.
कथा इमास्ते कथिता महीयसां विताय लोकेषु यशः परेयुषाम् ।
विज्ञानवैराग्यविवक्षया विभो वचोविभूतीर्न तु पारमार्थ्यम् ॥ १२.३.१४॥
kathaa imaaste kathita mahiiyasaam vitaaya lokeshu yashah pareyushaam
vignyaana-vairaagya-vivakshayaa vibho vachovibhootiirna tu paaramaartham

It was Shloka 12:3:14 of the Srimad Bhagavata PuraNa.

The son of sage VedaVyasa, Shukadeva Goswami, who is the main narrator of the Bhagavata Purana says to king Parikshith: “O mighty, king, I have told you tales of illustrious kings whose reputations have extended far and wide before their eventual passing. However, my primary objective has always been to impart the wisdom of transcendental knowledge and the importance of renunciation. Although these stories of great kings add grandeur and splendour to my narrations, they, on their own, do not constitute the ultimate knowledge.”

You are Divine. All beings are Divine. Divinity is all-pervading.
Vedanta has nothing to do with religion. It is the science of all sciences.

Stay blessed with great health, happiness, prosperity, and, above all, freedom.

Jai Shri Krishna.

Embrace Your Uniqueness – Don’t Let Labels Define You

Embrace Resilience: Rise Above Complaints, Victimhood, and Self-Pity

Denzel Washington, one of my favourite Hollywood actors, exudes brilliance in his style. His wisdom transcends all barriers, especially the common narrative of people feeling oppressed due to their ethnicity or skin colour.

When he declares, “I’m very proud to be black, but black is not all I am. That’s my cultural historical background, my genetic makeup, but it’s not all of who I am, nor is it the basis from which I answer every question,” he delivers a profound message that surpasses cultural, racial, and background constraints.

Breaking Free from Labels

Often, society encourages us to wear labels—to categorise ourselves based on culture, race, or social status. While these aspects are undeniably a part of our identity, they should not dominate or confine us. Denzel’s message is clear: embracing your individuality and understanding that labels do not define you are vital for personal growth and liberation.

The Pitfalls of Labelling

The act of labelling oneself comes with a set of risks. It can lead to a victim mentality, where one believes their background grants them certain entitlements or absolves them of accountability. Such an outlook constrains personal growth and hinders societal progress.

Equality and Unity

In a world that aspires to equality and unity, it’s crucial to acknowledge that our backgrounds, whether cultural, racial, or social, do not determine our worth. We are all equal members of the human race, and our actions, character, and integrity are the true measures of our essence. It’s our individual contributions and the values we uphold that leave an enduring imprint on the world.

Denzel Washington’s Wisdom

Denzel’s words echo the idea that while we should take pride in our backgrounds, they should not confine us. Let us celebrate our uniqueness and recognise that our character is the true basis from which we answer life’s questions. By shedding limiting labels, we open ourselves up to infinite opportunities and the chance to connect with others based on shared values and aspirations.

As Denzel Washington underscores, it is crucial to recognise that we are more than our cultural, racial, or social backgrounds. Our individuality is a cause for celebration, and it is through our shared humanity that we can work together to improve the world. So, let’s break free from labels, embrace our unique qualities, and stand together in unity and equality.

Unmasking the Veil: Rites and Rituals

In a world steeped in tradition, superstitions, and belief, have you ever wondered about the true essence behind the rituals we perform? Are these ceremonies mere customs, or do they hold a deeper, more profound meaning?

Join me on a journey where I peel back the layers of tradition to reveal the hidden truths beneath. In the video titled ‘Rituals vs. Self-Realisation’, we embark on an exploration of rites and rituals, but this isn’t your typical discourse. Instead, it’s an invitation to challenge your perspectives, to question what you’ve been told and what you thought you always knew, and to peep into the depths of spiritual understanding.

I won’t tell you everything, for the beauty of this journey lies in the discoveries you’ll make in the video, in which I draw upon the wisdom of ancient scriptures like the Srimad Bhagavad Gita to shed light on the often-misunderstood world of rituals. It is a voyage into the heart of spirituality, where you are encouraged to seek your truth.

But here is something important for you before you watch the video: It is about the two kinds of knowledge spoken about in the Mundaka Upanishad. They are Apara Vidya and Para Vidya.

Mundaka Upanishad 1:1:5

tatraaparaa rigvedo yajurvedah saamavedo’tharvavedah
shikshaa kalpo vyaakaraNam niruktam cchando jyotishamiti |
atha paraa yayaa tadaksharamadhigamyate || 5 ||

Among these, the Apara includes the Rig Veda, the Yajur Veda, the Sama Veda, and the Atharva Veda, as well as subjects like language and phonetics, grammar, etymology, prosody, and astrology. On the other hand, the Para Vidya refers to the knowledge through which one attains the imperishable Brahman

Watch the video to find out whether age-old customs that have shaped cultures and civilisations and have given birth to numerous rituals are a path to enlightenment or are a shroud that obscures the real journey. The answers might surprise you.

Are you ready to unmask the veil? Watch the video and embark on a quest to uncover the profound truths hidden within the world of rites and rituals.

Handling Temptation – Web Story

Please click on the cover image below

Temptation, in essence, is the powerful allure and craving for something alluring or pleasurable, despite its moral wrongness, harmful consequences, or being forbidden. It entices individuals towards engaging in actions, behaviours, or possessing objects that deviate from what is considered virtuous, ethical, or in line with their principles and beliefs. These temptations can take various forms, ranging from giving in to vices, and breaking rules, to acting against one’s better judgment and values. Overcoming temptation necessitates the cultivation of self-control, willpower, and the ability to make wise choices when faced with enticing alternatives.

To truly comprehend the nature of temptation and address its root causes, one can delve into the works of philosophical moral psychology, philosophy of action, and philosophical theology. In this regard, a structured approach, such as studying the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, offers valuable insights into understanding the ego, false ego (the assumed concept of ‘I’), the mind, and, most importantly, the all-pervading SELF. Such knowledge can empower individuals to resist the dangerous nature of temptation and safeguard themselves from becoming its victim.

At the core of our journey lies the intrinsic motivation that propels us to fulfil our duties, achieve our goals, and overcome challenges, elevating our living standards and more. While external support plays a role, we must not forget the paramount significance of our inner drive. This support can manifest in the form of material or moral assistance. We discover their profound influence on our inner motivations as we explore selected Shlokas from the Srimad Bhagavad Gita.

The Srimad Bhagavad Gita serves as a guiding light, leading seekers through various stages, culminating in Divine SELF-Realisation. Reading these chosen Shlokas can provide a momentary surge of mental energy, meeting our immediate needs for a powerful boost. However, it is vital to remember that such brief moments alone cannot replace the transformative experience of delving into the entirety of this life-changing scripture, the Srimad Bhagavad Gita.

KILL Fear and Anger

The TWO TRUTHS of LIFE

*In order for the video to make the best of this video, please go through the following post before watching the video.

*You could choose to listen to this audio, or if you wish, you could also play the audio and simultaneously read the introduction to the video given below:

Around thirty trillion cells that are stuck together form the human body in which you reside. In fact, YOU, or rather your SELF, exist in each of these trillions of cells.

Now, how is your SELF different from the SELF that exists in others and in all other living beings? Is each SELF known by some people as ‘Jivatma’ separate from one another? After a person is dead and gone, and when neither face, body, nor DNA exist, how can you tell one ‘Jivatma’ from another?`Do they have ‘Jivatma fingerprints?’ And if ‘Jivatmas’ were truly separate from one another, then they should be made of matter in one of the three states of solid, liquid or gas. What are they made of? Are they some kind of gas? If that were to be the case, they should be made of molecules. So what kind of molecules are they made of?

The lack of general knowledge, common sense, and an overall foundation of rationality are the ones that cause people to believe without questioning whatever ‘yarns’ are spun for them by ‘religious’ people.

Have you read the Srimad Bhagavad Gita? Did Arjuna ever ‘pray to Krishna’ to help him win the war? NO! Arjuna only requested Krishna to accept him as His pupil and impart knowledge to him.

The Srimad Bhagavad Gita is a perfect allegory for your life. The Mahabharata war is not something that takes place between you and others, but it is a perpetual battle between the ‘Pandavas’ and ‘Kauravas’ that represent the positive and negative thoughts in your mind. Remember that both are equally powerful, and therefore, the only way for the good guys or the Pandavas to win over the badies of the Kauravas would be THROUGH KNOWLEDGE. Every sane person has their own intellect or KRISHNA in them, but how many actually choose to be like Arjuna who questions, discusses, contemplates, reflects, and is always eager to learn, is an important question.

The last Shloka SBG 18:78 of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita sums it all up:

SBG 18:78 (Sanjaya says) Wherever there is Krishna, the Master of Yoga; and wherever there is Arjuna, the supreme archer; you will find there, prosperity, happiness, victory and righteousness. Of this fact, I am certain.

What is the moral of Shloka 18:78? A true seeker is one who is eager to learn, is socially responsible, is fearless, and is aware that he is the same All-pervading Supreme Paramatma, temporarily limited by his false belief that he is restricted to the boundaries of his skin on his body. Such a person consults his intellect before performing action, which he does as a sacrifice unto Krishna or his own Higher Self, and by doing so, he can be free from Karmic reactions and comfortably evolve towards the final goal of Ultimate Self-Realisation.

Please read the following translated SBG Shlokas and then watch the video:

SBG 2:18 The material body is perishable but not the eternal, indestructible and immeasurable Self, which has no end.

SBG 2:20 The Self is never born, nor does it die at any time. It does not come into existence by being born. The Self is constant. It is not killed when the body dies.

SBG 2:25 The Self is said to be formless, inconceivable, immutable and unchangeable. Hence, knowing this, you should not grieve.

SBG 6:29 A yogi, whose Self is united with Divine Consciousness, sees the Self abiding in all beings and all beings in the Self. Such a person sees the same everywhere.

SBG 13:02 (13.3 in some editions) You should know that the Kshetrajna or the embodied Self in all bodies or Kshetras is Me, O Arjuna. Knowing about the Kshetra and the Kshetrajnas is called knowledge.

SBG 13:22 (13.23 in some editions) Yet, within the body resides The Supreme Bhagavan who is also called the Spectator, the One who permits, the Supporter and the Transcendental Enjoyer. He is the Paramatma, the Supreme Self.

SBG 13:31 (13:32 in some editions) The imperishable Supreme Self is without any beginning and is devoid of the Gunas or material qualities, O Arjuna. Although it dwells in the body, it neither acts nor is tainted.

SBG 13:32 (13:33 in some editions) Just as the all-pervading ether is not tainted because of its subtlety, the Self that is seated everywhere in the body, does not mix with it nor is affected by it.

SBG 13:33 (13:34 in some editions) Like the sun that illuminates the whole world, the Self or the Soul, which is the Bhagavan of the Kshetram or body, illuminates the whole field, O Arjuna.

SBG 14:19 The one who recognises the Gunas alone as the agent in all actions and treats the Self to be above the Gunas, achieves My (Krishna’s) Divine Nature.

SBG 18:63 I have taught you the secret wisdom, which is deeper than all that is confidential and profound. Reflect fully on what I have declared to you, and do what you wish to do.

‘Capture the Essence’ – a sneak peek

The Preface of the book – read for you by the author.

Life is a grand journey between two crucial points in time. The manner in which an individual views life, experiences it, perceives various situations and reacts to them shape it apart from building their entire personality.

The Srimad Bhagavad Gita is a perfect guide to blissful living. However, the reputation of being deep, intense, complicated and highly philosophical that it carries, usually discourages seekers, both young and senior, from reading it. This book is aimed at making it easy for seekers to comprehend the essence of the amazing scripture, which is a great gift to humankind, and alter their whole perspective of life.

Those who study the scripture at a young age can be sure of a highly enriching and fulfilling life. Studying the Srimad Bhagavad Gita and internalising Krishna’s core teachings couldn’t get any simpler than this.

You only live twice

You, as an individual, have only one life, but then, your life until this very moment is gone, and therefore, your life from now on could be called your second life. What if you had a teacher or guide that would show you the way into a future that is bright, enriching, and fulfilling, thereby saving you enormous amounts of time?

Such a guide is the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, which is a life-changing book that can help you have clarity in the way you think, work, and live. Anyone who knows how to come to terms with challenging situations and manage them in a deft manner is always peaceful and never under stress. When you worry, you not only create unwanted negative images in your mind which could carry the propensity of becoming reality, but by doing so, you would only be wasting time that could have been spent in a better way creating your future. You can either live every moment of your life or waste it, turning it into a stepping stone for you to get closer to the end of your sojourn on the planet. Every moment, when consciously lived and experienced, can be as rich and fulfilling as one’s entire lifetime.

Everyone goes through situations that they do not like or those that could be causing them sadness. The wise know to step outside themselves, observe the situation they are in, think calmly, and come out with a good solution.

The two basic drives: There are two objectives that people have. The first one is the natural instinct to survive, and the second one is to derive pleasure. The three levels before attaining the final goal of realising Brahman are:

  • Body
  • Mind
  • Atman and beyond.

In the first level of the physical body, people strive to satisfy it through consuming food, working on their appearance, and attaining physical comfort. Once a person has achieved the first level, they prefer something that would be good for their mind and ego. All worldly achievements that are associated with wealth, power, position, and reputation or image come under this category. Love for art can also be grouped under this level.

Those who are satisfied with the worldly comforts they have received, then start looking for something that would satisfy their soul. This includes spiritual studies, meditation, being close to nature and also higher levels of art such as music. People who have cleared the first three steps are finally ready for Self-realisation or experiencing Brahman.

In the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, Krishna the JagadGuru or teacher of the world has cogently and lucidly explained in a rational manner the most important truths of life and death. A person with such clarity can bravely and intelligently face and handle even the toughest of challenges. However, most people find getting to read this scripture to be the main problem.

We are all aware that some major Gita organisations distribute big fat copies of the SBG to people. However, the big question is of what use it is? People hardly cross two pages, shut the book and put it away for a later time, probably until they enter their late sixties, or until the day they meet someone like me who talks them into reading it.

The challenge: People are generally not motivated or are probably lazy to read the SBG. It could be for three main reasons:

a. They are already convinced that the SBG is too deep and cannot be learned by oneself without the help of a teacher.

b. The thought that philosophy and spirituality are for ‘old people,’ and that it does not go together with the material world of family and career.

c. The scripture, which is highly metaphorical, can sometimes go over the head of a reader who is not mentally prepared for such knowledge.

The solution: Instead of organising high-level spiritual Satsangs, or distributing fat books among people who are beginners in the subject, the best solution would be a short e-book that is tightly packed with the core information of the SBG in it, and that people could carry on their phones. This book/e-book, with well-defined sections and subheadings, is easy to read and complete within a short duration of time. It would enable the easy internalising of the ESSENCE of the philosophy of the SBG taught in it. People who have reached this preparatory stage would naturally be inclined and driven to go further and deeper into the study of Vedanta.

b. Capture the Essence – Srimad Bhagavad Gita Paperback and e-book editions of a short book containing brief summaries of the 18 Chapters sprinkled with the author’s thoughts and interpretations.

“Wouldn’t people be willing to invest INR 100/USD 2.99 for an E-book or INR 250/USD 8 for a paperback version on something that can change the lives of themselves and of their loved ones?” I ask myself.

The reason for fixing a  price for this book is simply because most people tend to not pay heed to things that come for free and therefore end up not benefiting from such resources. Nevertheless, I might consider looking for sponsors for printing in India copies of the ‘Capture the Essence – Srimad Bhagavad Gita’ to be distributed for free among students, young people, corporate employees, management staff, and others.

It is my fervent desire that just as I have done, others also attain spiritual and; mental freedom, feel liberated and learn to live a blessed life with great health, peace, love, freedom, prosperity, and fulfilment.

Every journey begins with the first step. Your first step in your journey towards Vedanta to acquire Vedantic spiritual knowledge would be getting yourself a copy of: ‘Capture the Essence – Srimad Bhagavad Gita.’

It costs a mere INR 100 or USD 2.99 for the e-book or INR 250 or USD 8 for the paperback version. It is a price worth paying to change your life for the better, isn’t it?
