Srimad Bhagavad Gita 7:03 presents a profound insight: “Out of thousands of men, hardly one tries to achieve perfection in Self-realisation…and among those who do achieve Self-realisation, there is hardly one who truly knows Me.” This Shloka highlights the rarity of individuals who question, seek understanding, and reject unfounded beliefs.

Influenced by organised religions and personality cults, the concept of duality has entrenched itself in the minds of many Indians and those of Indian origin. This post aims to clarify that Vedanta transcends mere belief systems. For that matter,…READ ON SUBSTACK

The Bhaja Govindam Song – Sanskrit Text, Transliteration, and English Translation

Shri Adi Shankaracharya

Aum Shri Gurubhyo Namaha

Introducing the Bhaja Govindam Song: A Code for Responsible Living

Have you ever wondered about the true meaning behind the captivating Bhaja Govindam song? Often recited and sung without understanding, this song holds profound wisdom that transcends mere prayer.

In my latest video, I delve deep into the essence of Bhaja Govindam, offering an English translation that unlocks the hidden messages within each Shloka. Additionally, I provide a PDF file containing the original Sanskrit Shlokas, transliteration, and translation for those who wish to explore further.

Contrary to popular belief, Bhaja Govindam is not exactly a conventional prayer song. It begins with the bold declaration, “O Fool,” setting the tone for a profound exploration of life’s responsibilities and truths. This song serves as a code for responsible living, urging individuals to shed ignorance and false beliefs.

In the video, I discuss how Shri Adi Shankara categorised his works into three groups, each tailored for individuals at different levels of understanding. However, throughout his teachings, Shankaracharya emphasises the importance of attaining SELF-knowledge (Atmagnyaana) and dispelling ignorance.

Moreover, I highlight the significance of gaining clarity of mind through understanding Vedanta, rather than blindly adhering to rituals and rites. In today’s world, where external influences seek to sway individuals from their spiritual path, it is crucial to grasp the essence of Vedantic teachings.

If you haven’t yet acquired my latest work, titled ‘The Ever-Relevant Gita: A Present-Day Rendering,’ please do so at your earliest convenience. The wisdom gained from exploring this song along with one or two reads of my book will undoubtedly bring clarity to your mind, leading to a peaceful, enjoyable, stress-free, calm, enriching, and fulfilling life.

Anthropomorphisation: Beyond Dualistic Worship and Confusion

A Gateway to Understanding Vedic Symbolism

Learning to Decode the Mysteries of Vedic Anthropomorphisation

The renowned Greek philosopher Seneca said, “We suffer more often in imagination than in reality.”

Isn’t it true? Many people are eternally afraid of a ‘heavenly ‘god”, who they fear would ‘punish’ them for wrongdoings or for not being ‘pious’ and ‘religious’ enough! What does such baseless fear stem from? From DUALITY or DUALISM, of course! Even the fear of death, which is the mother of all fears, stems from duality!

‘Anthropomorphisation’ is a term I used in one of my first posts on this blog. The post is titled ‘Fearlessness – achieving it by understanding the ‘God’ Concept.’

Since July 2014, my journey has been dedicated to elucidating the concept of anthropomorphisation and guiding individuals away from the veils of ignorance fostered by duality and dualistic worship, perpetuated by miscommunication from previous generations. Young children are often taught to believe in and pray to imaginary beings, which can hinder their intellectual development. Through the teachings of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, we’ll explore how such dualistic thinking can limit understanding of the all-pervading nature of the SELF or Krishna, as described in the supreme scripture. Fools, in the words of the supreme scripture, are those who do not grasp this.

Think about it. Arjuna says to Shri Krishna in Shloka SBG 11:23 “Having seen You, O mighty-armed One (Shri Bhagavan Krishna), in your Cosmic form, with many faces, eyes, many arms, many thighs, many legs, many bellies, and many terrifying teeth, all the planets are perturbed. I too am aghast.”

Can this be taken literally? Can you imagine Krishna as a being with ‘many faces, eyes, arms, thighs, legs, bellies, and terrifying teeth’ in a literal sense?

Understanding anthropomorphisation is pivotal to grasping the essence of Vedic Dharma, which advocates progressing from simplistic worship of the various forces of nature towards intellectual enlightenment and the attainment of Atmagnyana, or SELF-knowledge.

SBG 3:21 (Krishna says) “Whatever or whichever action an important person does, others follow him and emulate him. What he does becomes a standard for the others.”
It’s a stark reality that some practices and traditions of certain people in the past have morphed into rigid superstitions and belief systems, steering people away from the path of knowledge and towards cults and sects.

The primary cause of such decay in Dharmic society is the widespread ignorance about Vedanta, exploited by charlatans and self-proclaimed religious leaders to amass followers and material wealth.

Vedanta, signifying the culmination, end, or zenith of the Vedas, represents the ultimate goal. As affirmed by Krishna in Shloka SBG 9:02
राजविद्या राजगुह्यं पवित्रमिदमुत्तमम् |
प्रत्यक्षावगमं धर्म्यं सुसुखं कर्तुमव्ययम् || ९ २ ||
raaja-vidyaa raaja-guhyam
pavitra mida-muttamam
pratyakshaa-vagamam dharmyam
su-sukham kartu mavyayam (SBG 9:02)
“This is the royal science, the supremely holy and profound secret that can be experienced directly and with ease. It is very easy to practise and is everlasting.”

All it requires is a simple comprehension of texts like the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, shedding dualistic thoughts, and delving into the anthropomorphisation and allegory prevalent in Vedic scriptures such as the Srimad Bhagavad Gita and the Srimad Bhagavatam.

The Srimad Bhagavatam explicitly states in SB 12:3:14:
कथा इमास्ते कथिता महीयसां विताय लोकेषु यशः परेयुषाम् ।
विज्ञानवैराग्यविवक्षया विभो वचोविभूतीर्न तु पारमार्थ्यम् ॥ १२.३.१४॥
kathaa imaaste kathita mahiiyasaam vitaaya lokeshu yashah pareyushaam
vignyaana-vairaagya-vivakshayaa vibho vachovibhootiirna tu paaramaartham
(Rishi Shuka, the narrator of the Srimad Bhagavatam, said to Parikshith), “I have narrated to you the stories of great kings to embellish my narrations with power and opulence. However, my primary aim has been to impart transcendental knowledge and renunciation. These stories contribute to the richness of my narrative but do not embody the highest knowledge.”

Further elucidation is provided by Shloka SBG 7:24:
अव्यक्तं व्यक्तिमापन्नं मन्यन्ते मामबुद्धयः |
परं भावमजानन्तो ममाव्ययमनुत्तमम् || ७ २४ ||
avyaktam vyakti-maapannam
manyante maam-abuddhayaha
param bhaava-majaa-nanto
mamaa-vyayaman-uttamam
(SBG 7:24)
“Foolish people who do not know My formless, exalted, imperishable, and supreme nature think I assume a manifest human form.”

Can you imagine adults using an abacus to tally their finances? That would look silly, wouldn’t it? Persisting in a dualistic approach, even in later years, reflects ignorance, laziness, and the reluctance to transcend one’s current level of understanding, hindering progress towards the ultimate goal of Atmagnyaana.

To reiterate: all deities, gods, and goddesses are anthropomorphisations or personifications of various natural factors. Brahman, the all-pervading substance or substrate of everything, is unseen, while the deities represent their ‘Vibhuti’, created by humans for relatability.

In my book ‘The Ever-Relevant Gita: A Contemporary Interpretation by Tavamithram Sarvada‘, I delve into the symbolism of the main characters:

1. The Kauravas and Pandavas serve as personifications of the conflicting forces within the human psyche.

2. Arjuna’s adversaries, including family, friends, and mentors, symbolize the emotional attachments to people, possessions, and ideologies that ensnare individuals.

3. The battlefield of Kurukshetra allegorically represents the perpetual struggle of conflicting ideals within the human consciousness.

4. The beloved figures in the narrative epitomise the myriad attachments that can undermine one’s mental fortitude, leading some to forsake their aspirations.

5. Arjuna embodies the archetype of the ordinary individual who, despite possessing education, wisdom, and experience, succumbs to emotional turmoil and contemplates retreat.

6. Krishna embodies the intellect, representing the potential for enlightenment attainable by those who master their thoughts, exhibit unwavering responsibility, and adhere to the path of righteousness.

7. In Shloka SBG 5:13, Krishna metaphorically depicts the human body as a city with nine gates, known as ‘Dwaras,’ hence the term Dwaraka. As explained in SBG 10:20, Shri Krishna the ruler of Dwaraka, symbolises the SELF within each individual: Makes sense?

If you’ve been a regular visitor to this blog/site but haven’t yet read or listened to the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, despite the decade of assistance and free resources I’ve offered, and if you still believe that reciting or, rather, regurgitating Sanskrit mantras or visiting mountaintop temples can resolve your problems, then I can only express my sympathy for you.

However, it’s never too late. NOW is the first moment of the rest of your life. Reach out to me should you need help, and I will share with you whatever humble knowledge and experience I have gained during my journey through life until now.

It’s time to transcend petty disputes over gods, deities, and temples. Embrace Vedanta, and lead a blissful life.

Jai Shri Krishna.

Ashtavakra Gita – Chapter 01

Liberating the Mind from the Illusion of Duality

Exploring the Profound Wisdom of Sage Ashtavakra in the Ashtavakra Gita

For those unfamiliar with Sage Ashtavakra and the profound teachings of the Ashtavakra Gita, let’s embark on a journey into the depths of Advaita Vedanta—the yoga of knowledge—as instructed to King Janaka by Sage Ashtavakra.

Introduction to Sage Ashtavakra and the Ashtavakra Gita
Sage Ashtavakra, whose name means “eight bends,” was a SELF-realised saint and sage, despite physical deformities. The Ashtavakra Gita, a dialogue between Sage Ashtavakra and King Janaka, stands as a beacon of advanced Advaita Vedanta wisdom.

Body as the Temple of the Supreme SELF
As Sage Ashtavakra unveils timeless wisdom, he emphasises that the physical body is a temple of the Supreme SELF. The realisation that the SELF or Atman remains unaffected by the body’s appearance clears common notions.

King Janaka’s Spiritual Journey
King Janaka, a seeker despite worldly success, had two gurus – Ashtavakra and Yajnavalkya. His story exemplifies that SELF-realisation transcends external circumstances.

Ashtavakra Gita’s Twenty Chapters
The Ashtavakra Gita comprises twenty chapters, each containing potent verses that impart pure wisdom and offer transformative insights.

Shlokas from the First Chapter – ‘Sakshi’
Exploring the Shlokas from the First Chapter, we delve into Janaka’s inquiry and Sage Ashtavakra’s profound responses. The verses guide us towards understanding knowledge, liberation, and the state of renunciation.

The Earthen Pot Analogy
Drawing parallels with the space inside and outside a pot, Ashtavakra illustrates the all-encompassing nature of the SELF. This analogy beautifully conveys the omnipresence of the Ultimate Reality.

The Joyful Contact with Brahman
Krishna’s words in the Bhagavad Gita highlight the yogi’s blissful contact with Brahman. This contact, similar to our constant connection with space, symbolises the pervasive nature of the SELF.

Realisation of ‘Aham Brahmasmi’
The seeking culminates in realising ‘Aham Brahmasmi’ or ‘I (the SELF  and not my ego) am Brahman’– the highest state of subjective awareness and oneness with the all-pervading reality.

Shlokas from the Mandukya Upanishad affirm the omnipresence of the Self. Realizing that ‘Tat Tvam Asi’ (You are THAT) brings an end to the seeker’s journey.

Conclusion
Sage Ashtavakra’s teachings, echoed through the Ashtavakra Gita, and the timeless wisdom of the Vedas and Upanishads, guide a seeker towards the ultimate realisation—the oneness of the individual SELF with the Supreme Reality.

The delusion of duality leads to the belief in deities, ‘gods’, ‘godmen and godwomen, and other non-existent elemental beings, and also to the fear of them. Dualistic beliefs likewise lead to the ‘your ‘god” and ‘my god” problem, leading to animosity among people. May the wisdom of Ashtavakra illuminate your path and help you steer your way out of the mental delusion of duality, meaningless practices in the name of religion or pseudo-bhakti, and the ‘fear of ‘god”, and lead you towards realising the all-pervasiveness of the Supreme Brahman personified as Bhagavan Shri Krishna.

Stay blessed on your spiritual journey.

Four Crucial KarmaYoga Shlokas – Printable

Apply these principles in your daily life, and witness your life transforming into utter bliss.

BE A KARMAYOGI

The True Essence of a KarmaYogi

Namaste,

You may have encountered the term KarmaYogi in your spiritual journey, but perhaps you find it challenging to fully grasp and internalise its profound meaning. It’s a common experience for many individuals to attend lengthy sermons by revered gurus and spiritual leaders, only to leave without gaining valuable insights or practical steps for personal transformation. Mechanical rituals and mere recitation of Shlokas and Mantras often fall short of fostering a deeper understanding. To truly embrace the path of KarmaYogi, one must first delve into the profound concept of devotion, known as ‘Bhakti’ in Sanskrit, and work towards attaining Atmagnyana or the supreme Knowledge of the SELF.

However, the misinterpretation of the term ‘Bhakti’ has led to misguided religious practices and the formation of belief systems and bizarre cults, resulting in spiritual immaturity. At its core, the practice of devotion should lead to self-realisation and profound transformation.

A Path to Transformation for All

I have made various resources available to you, including paperbacks, e-books, videos, Udemy courses, and informative posts. My sincere intention is to make the invaluable wisdom of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita accessible to individuals from all walks of life, regardless of societal status, gender, or religious background. This commitment arises from my deep desire to share the philosophy that has profoundly transformed my life, ushering in a state of complete freedom, inner peace, and unceasing bliss.

Krishna’s Teachings on Action and Detachment

In Shloka SBG 2:47, the Srimad Bhagavad Gita explicitly conveys, “You only possess the right to perform your actions, but you should never lay claim to their outcomes. The results of your actions should not be your primary motivation, and yet, you must not be inert or uninvolved.” This teaching encapsulates the essence of the Karma Marga as elucidated by Bhagavan Shri Krishna. It emphasises the importance of performing one’s duties without attachment to the results. Nowhere in the entire Srimad Bhagavad Gita does Krishna instruct Arjuna to visit a temple of His and engage in meaningless rites and rituals in exchange for desires. A careful reading of Shlokas SBG 2:41-47 reveals Krishna’s instructions on desire-driven rituals conducted in the name of religion. These seven Shlokas shed light on activities that people believe please ‘god’ but, in reality, go against the true teachings of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita

A Gift of Wisdom: The Srimad Bhagavad Gita in Narration

This special project is my rendition of the entire Srimad Bhagavad Gita in the form of a story-telling narration. I have designed it to provide you with a seamless and uninterrupted experience, free from the distractions of Shloka numbers. My goal is to help you gain a deep understanding of what the Srimad Bhagavad Gita truly represents, without the need to rely on misleading WhatsApp forwards claiming to be from the Gita.

Here are four essential Shlokas from the Srimad Bhagavad Gita that can set you on the path of Karma Marga as elucidated by Shri Krishna. You have the option to download these Shlokas as an image or in PDF format. I encourage you to start by applying these teachings in your daily life, whether at home, at work, or anywhere else. Srimad Bhagavad Gita SBG 8:9

कविं पुराणमनुशासितारं

“The Parampurush is the Omniscient and Most Ancient Ruler, who is more minute than an atom, has an inconceivable Divine form, and is beyond the brightness of the sun and the darkness of ignorance.”

Ishavasya Upanishad IU05

“tadan tarasya sarvasya
tadu-sarvasyaa-sya baahyataha (IU 05)
“It moves, and it does not move. It is far, yet so near. It exists within and also outside all this.”

Srimad Bhagavad Gita SBG 7:19

बहूनां जन्मनामन्ते ज्ञानवान्मां प्रपद्यते |

“Therefore, after innumerable births, the one who has perfected his or her wisdom, understanding fully My universal reality, surrenders to Me and such a soul is very rare.”

Aim to be that rare one, not a sycophantic follower of some cult or individual. Anyone who helps in removing ignorance, which exists due to the mind being shrouded by meaningless beliefs and illogical concepts, is a GURU, which means remover of darkness. I must admit that I have learned quite a few things from my son, and therefore, he too is my GURU.

ॐ ब्रह्मानन्दं परमसुखदं केवलं ज्ञानमूर्तिं
द्वन्द्वातीतं गगनसदृशं तत्त्वमस्यादिलक्ष्यम् ।

Dvandva teetam gagana sadrusham Tatvam asyaadi lakshyam
Ekam nityam vimalam achalam Sarvadhi saakshibhootam
Bhava teetam triguNa rahitam Sadhgurum tam namaami
“My obeisance to the Guru, the Bliss of Brahman, the One who bestows Supreme Happiness and is Knowledge personified.
To the One who transcends the pairs of opposites, is vast as the sky and who is known as “That you are”.
To the One who is eternal, pure, unchanging and is the witness of the functions of the intellect.
To the One who is above all mental states and the three Gunas.
My salutations to that Divine Guru.”

Remember that everything you come across in scriptures such as the Puranas is nothing but 100% allegory. The author of the Bhagavata PuraNa has given such a clear and precise disclaimer in the scripture.
कथा इमास्ते कथिता महीयसां विताय लोकेषु यशः परेयुषाम् ।
विज्ञानवैराग्यविवक्षया विभो वचोविभूतीर्न तु पारमार्थ्यम् ॥ १२.३.१४॥
kathaa imaaste kathita mahiiyasaam vitaaya lokeshu yashah pareyushaam
vignyaana-vairaagya-vivakshayaa vibho vachovibhootiirna tu paaramaartham

It was Shloka 12:3:14 of the Srimad Bhagavata PuraNa.

The son of sage VedaVyasa, Shukadeva Goswami, who is the main narrator of the Bhagavata Purana says to king Parikshith: “O mighty, king, I have told you tales of illustrious kings whose reputations have extended far and wide before their eventual passing. However, my primary objective has always been to impart the wisdom of transcendental knowledge and the importance of renunciation. Although these stories of great kings add grandeur and splendour to my narrations, they, on their own, do not constitute the ultimate knowledge.”

You are Divine. All beings are Divine. Divinity is all-pervading.
Vedanta has nothing to do with religion. It is the science of all sciences.

Stay blessed with great health, happiness, prosperity, and, above all, freedom.

Jai Shri Krishna.

Embrace Your Uniqueness – Don’t Let Labels Define You

Embrace Resilience: Rise Above Complaints, Victimhood, and Self-Pity

PLEASE READ THE POST BEFORE WATCHING THE VIDEO!

Denzel Washington, one of my favorite Hollywood actors, exudes brilliance in his style. His wisdom transcends all barriers, especially the common narrative of people feeling oppressed due to their ethnicity or skin color.

When he declares, “I’m very proud to be black, but black is not all I am. That’s my cultural historical background, my genetic makeup, but it’s not all of who I am, nor is it the basis from which I answer every question,” he delivers a profound message that surpasses cultural, racial, and background constraints.

Breaking Free from Labels

Often, society encourages us to wear labels—to categorise ourselves based on culture, race, or social status. While these aspects are undeniably a part of our identity, they should not dominate or confine us. Denzel’s message is clear: embracing your individuality and understanding that labels do not define you are vital for personal growth and liberation.

The Pitfalls of Labelling

The act of labelling oneself comes with a set of risks. It can lead to a victim mentality, where one believes their background grants them certain entitlements or absolves them of accountability. Such an outlook constrains personal growth and hinders societal progress.

Equality and Unity

In a world that aspires to equality and unity, it’s crucial to acknowledge that our backgrounds, whether cultural, racial, or social, do not determine our worth. We are all equal members of the human race, and our actions, character, and integrity are the true measures of our essence. It’s our individual contributions and the values we uphold that leave an enduring imprint on the world.

Denzel Washington’s Wisdom

Denzel’s words echo the idea that while we should take pride in our backgrounds, they should not confine us. Let us celebrate our uniqueness and recognise that our character is the true basis from which we answer life’s questions. By shedding limiting labels, we open ourselves up to infinite opportunities and the chance to connect with others based on shared values and aspirations.

As Denzel Washington underscores, it is crucial to recognise that we are more than our cultural, racial, or social backgrounds. Our individuality is a cause for celebration, and it is through our shared humanity that we can work together to improve the world. So, let’s break free from labels, embrace our unique qualities, and stand together in unity and equality.

Unmasking the Veil: Rites and Rituals

In a world steeped in tradition, superstitions, and belief, have you ever wondered about the true essence behind the rituals we perform? Are these ceremonies mere customs, or do they hold a deeper, more profound meaning?

Join me on a journey where I peel back the layers of tradition to reveal the hidden truths beneath. In the video titled ‘Rituals vs. Self-Realisation’, we embark on an exploration of rites and rituals, but this isn’t your typical discourse. Instead, it’s an invitation to challenge your perspectives, to question what you’ve been told and what you thought you always knew, and to peep into the depths of spiritual understanding.

I won’t tell you everything, for the beauty of this journey lies in the discoveries you’ll make in the video, in which I draw upon the wisdom of ancient scriptures like the Srimad Bhagavad Gita to shed light on the often-misunderstood world of rituals. It is a voyage into the heart of spirituality, where you are encouraged to seek your truth.

But here is something important for you before you watch the video: It is about the two kinds of knowledge spoken about in the Mundaka Upanishad. They are Apara Vidya and Para Vidya.

Mundaka Upanishad 1:1:5

tatraaparaa rigvedo yajurvedah saamavedo’tharvavedah
shikshaa kalpo vyaakaraNam niruktam cchando jyotishamiti |
atha paraa yayaa tadaksharamadhigamyate || 5 ||

Among these, the Apara includes the Rig Veda, the Yajur Veda, the Sama Veda, and the Atharva Veda, as well as subjects like language and phonetics, grammar, etymology, prosody, and astrology. On the other hand, the Para Vidya refers to the knowledge through which one attains the imperishable Brahman

Watch the video to find out whether age-old customs that have shaped cultures and civilisations and have given birth to numerous rituals are a path to enlightenment or are a shroud that obscures the real journey. The answers might surprise you.

Are you ready to unmask the veil? Watch the video and embark on a quest to uncover the profound truths hidden within the world of rites and rituals.

Handling Temptation – Web Story

Please click on the cover image below

Temptation, in essence, is the powerful allure and craving for something alluring or pleasurable, despite its moral wrongness, harmful consequences, or being forbidden. It entices individuals towards engaging in actions, behaviours, or possessing objects that deviate from what is considered virtuous, ethical, or in line with their principles and beliefs. These temptations can take various forms, ranging from giving in to vices, and breaking rules, to acting against one’s better judgment and values. Overcoming temptation necessitates the cultivation of self-control, willpower, and the ability to make wise choices when faced with enticing alternatives.

To truly comprehend the nature of temptation and address its root causes, one can delve into the works of philosophical moral psychology, philosophy of action, and philosophical theology. In this regard, a structured approach, such as studying the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, offers valuable insights into understanding the ego, false ego (the assumed concept of ‘I’), the mind, and, most importantly, the all-pervading SELF. Such knowledge can empower individuals to resist the dangerous nature of temptation and safeguard themselves from becoming its victim.

KILL Fear and Anger

The TWO TRUTHS of LIFE

*In order for the video to make the best of this video, please go through the following post before watching the video.

*You could choose to listen to this audio, or if you wish, you could also play the audio and simultaneously read the introduction to the video given below:

Around thirty trillion cells that are stuck together form the human body in which you reside. In fact, YOU, or rather your SELF, exist in each of these trillions of cells.

Now, how is your SELF different from the SELF that exists in others and in all other living beings? Is each SELF known by some people as ‘Jivatma’ separate from one another? After a person is dead and gone, and when neither face, body, nor DNA exist, how can you tell one ‘Jivatma’ from another?`Do they have ‘Jivatma fingerprints?’ And if ‘Jivatmas’ were truly separate from one another, then they should be made of matter in one of the three states of solid, liquid or gas. What are they made of? Are they some kind of gas? If that were to be the case, they should be made of molecules. So what kind of molecules are they made of?

The lack of general knowledge, common sense, and an overall foundation of rationality are the ones that cause people to believe without questioning whatever ‘yarns’ are spun for them by ‘religious’ people.

Have you read the Srimad Bhagavad Gita? Did Arjuna ever ‘pray to Krishna’ to help him win the war? NO! Arjuna only requested Krishna to accept him as His pupil and impart knowledge to him.

The Srimad Bhagavad Gita is a perfect allegory for your life. The Mahabharata war is not something that takes place between you and others, but it is a perpetual battle between the ‘Pandavas’ and ‘Kauravas’ that represent the positive and negative thoughts in your mind. Remember that both are equally powerful, and therefore, the only way for the good guys or the Pandavas to win over the badies of the Kauravas would be THROUGH KNOWLEDGE. Every sane person has their own intellect or KRISHNA in them, but how many actually choose to be like Arjuna who questions, discusses, contemplates, reflects, and is always eager to learn, is an important question.

The last Shloka SBG 18:78 of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita sums it all up:

SBG 18:78 (Sanjaya says) Wherever there is Krishna, the Master of Yoga; and wherever there is Arjuna, the supreme archer; you will find there, prosperity, happiness, victory and righteousness. Of this fact, I am certain.

What is the moral of Shloka 18:78? A true seeker is one who is eager to learn, is socially responsible, is fearless, and is aware that he is the same All-pervading Supreme Paramatma, temporarily limited by his false belief that he is restricted to the boundaries of his skin on his body. Such a person consults his intellect before performing action, which he does as a sacrifice unto Krishna or his own Higher Self, and by doing so, he can be free from Karmic reactions and comfortably evolve towards the final goal of Ultimate Self-Realisation.

Please read the following translated SBG Shlokas and then watch the video:

SBG 2:18 The material body is perishable but not the eternal, indestructible and immeasurable Self, which has no end.

SBG 2:20 The Self is never born, nor does it die at any time. It does not come into existence by being born. The Self is constant. It is not killed when the body dies.

SBG 2:25 The Self is said to be formless, inconceivable, immutable and unchangeable. Hence, knowing this, you should not grieve.

SBG 6:29 A yogi, whose Self is united with Divine Consciousness, sees the Self abiding in all beings and all beings in the Self. Such a person sees the same everywhere.

SBG 13:02 (13.3 in some editions) You should know that the Kshetrajna or the embodied Self in all bodies or Kshetras is Me, O Arjuna. Knowing about the Kshetra and the Kshetrajnas is called knowledge.

SBG 13:22 (13.23 in some editions) Yet, within the body resides The Supreme Bhagavan who is also called the Spectator, the One who permits, the Supporter and the Transcendental Enjoyer. He is the Paramatma, the Supreme Self.

SBG 13:31 (13:32 in some editions) The imperishable Supreme Self is without any beginning and is devoid of the Gunas or material qualities, O Arjuna. Although it dwells in the body, it neither acts nor is tainted.

SBG 13:32 (13:33 in some editions) Just as the all-pervading ether is not tainted because of its subtlety, the Self that is seated everywhere in the body, does not mix with it nor is affected by it.

SBG 13:33 (13:34 in some editions) Like the sun that illuminates the whole world, the Self or the Soul, which is the Bhagavan of the Kshetram or body, illuminates the whole field, O Arjuna.

SBG 14:19 The one who recognises the Gunas alone as the agent in all actions and treats the Self to be above the Gunas, achieves My (Krishna’s) Divine Nature.

SBG 18:63 I have taught you the secret wisdom, which is deeper than all that is confidential and profound. Reflect fully on what I have declared to you, and do what you wish to do.

‘Capture the Essence’ – a sneak peek

The Preface of the book – read for you by the author.

Life is a grand journey between two crucial points in time. The manner in which an individual views life, experiences it, perceives various situations and reacts to them shape it apart from building their entire personality.

The Srimad Bhagavad Gita is a perfect guide to blissful living. However, the reputation of being deep, intense, complicated and highly philosophical that it carries, usually discourages seekers, both young and senior, from reading it. This book is aimed at making it easy for seekers to comprehend the essence of the amazing scripture, which is a great gift to humankind, and alter their whole perspective of life.

Those who study the scripture at a young age can be sure of a highly enriching and fulfilling life. Studying the Srimad Bhagavad Gita and internalising Krishna’s core teachings couldn’t get any simpler than this.

NOW is the best time to get your copy of the book. Capture the Essence, available on Amazon, Flipkart and White Falcon Publishing.

You only live twice

You, as an individual, have only one life, but then, your life until this very moment is gone, and therefore, your life from now on could be called your second life. What if you had a teacher or guide that would show you the way into a future that is bright, enriching, and fulfilling, thereby saving you enormous amounts of time?

Such a guide is the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, which is a life-changing book that can help you have clarity in the way you think, work, and live. Anyone who knows how to come to terms with challenging situations and manage them in a deft manner is always peaceful and never under stress. When you worry, you not only create unwanted negative images in your mind which could carry the propensity of becoming reality, but by doing so, you would only be wasting time that could have been spent in a better way creating your future. You can either live every moment of your life or waste it, turning it into a stepping stone for you to get closer to the end of your sojourn on the planet. Every moment, when consciously lived and experienced, can be as rich and fulfilling as one’s entire lifetime.

Everyone goes through situations that they do not like or those that could be causing them sadness. The wise know to step outside themselves, observe the situation they are in, think calmly, and come out with a good solution.

The two basic drives: There are two objectives that people have. The first one is the natural instinct to survive, and the second one is to derive pleasure. The three levels before attaining the final goal of realising Brahman are:

  • Body
  • Mind
  • Atman and beyond.

In the first level of the physical body, people strive to satisfy it through consuming food, working on their appearance, and attaining physical comfort. Once a person has achieved the first level, they prefer something that would be good for their mind and ego. All worldly achievements that are associated with wealth, power, position, and reputation or image come under this category. Love for art can also be grouped under this level.

Those who are satisfied with the worldly comforts they have received, then start looking for something that would satisfy their soul. This includes spiritual studies, meditation, being close to nature and also higher levels of art such as music. People who have cleared the first three steps are finally ready for Self-realisation or experiencing Brahman.

In the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, Krishna the JagadGuru or teacher of the world has cogently and lucidly explained in a rational manner the most important truths of life and death. A person with such clarity can bravely and intelligently face and handle even the toughest of challenges. However, most people find getting to read this scripture to be the main problem.

We are all aware that some major Gita organisations distribute big fat copies of the SBG to people. However, the big question is of what use it is? People hardly cross two pages, shut the book and put it away for a later time, probably until they enter their late sixties, or until the day they meet someone like me who talks them into reading it.

The challenge: People are generally not motivated or are probably lazy to read the SBG. It could be for three main reasons:

a. They are already convinced that the SBG is too deep and cannot be learned by oneself without the help of a teacher.

b. The thought that philosophy and spirituality are for ‘old people,’ and that it does not go together with the material world of family and career.

c. The scripture, which is highly metaphorical, can sometimes go over the head of a reader who is not mentally prepared for such knowledge.

The solution: Instead of organising high-level spiritual Satsangs, or distributing fat books among people who are beginners in the subject, the best solution would be a short e-book that is tightly packed with the core information of the SBG in it, and that people could carry on their phones. This book/e-book, with well-defined sections and subheadings, is easy to read and complete within a short duration of time. It would enable the easy internalising of the ESSENCE of the philosophy of the SBG taught in it. People who have reached this preparatory stage would naturally be inclined and driven to go further and deeper into the study of Vedanta.

a. My SBG Run-through video is available for free on YouTube.

b. Capture the Essence – Srimad Bhagavad Gita Paperback and e-book editions of a short book containing brief summaries of the 18 Chapters sprinkled with the author’s thoughts and interpretations.

“Wouldn’t people be willing to invest INR 100/USD 2.99 for an E-book or INR 250/USD 8 for a paperback version on something that can change the lives of themselves and of their loved ones?” I ask myself.

The reason for fixing a  price for this book is simply because most people tend to not pay heed to things that come for free and therefore end up not benefiting from such resources. Nevertheless, I might consider looking for sponsors for printing in India copies of the ‘Capture the Essence – Srimad Bhagavad Gita’ to be distributed for free among students, young people, corporate employees, management staff, and others.

It is my fervent desire that just as I have done, others also attain spiritual and; mental freedom, feel liberated and learn to live a blessed life with great health, peace, love, freedom, prosperity, and fulfilment.

Every journey begins with the first step. Your first step in your journey towards Vedanta to acquire Vedantic spiritual knowledge would be getting yourself a copy of: ‘Capture the Essence – Srimad Bhagavad Gita.’

It costs a mere INR 100 or USD 2.99 for the e-book or INR 250 or USD 8 for the paperback version. It is a price worth paying to change your life for the better, isn’t it?

Act now.

Karmic ‘Potholes’

Temptations are Karmic ‘potholes’ which are detrimental to one’s Karmic evolution.

There are temptations that can influence the minds of even very highly intelligent and educated people. Such people when tempted, are led to do things that they would normally never do. It is usually because of a moment of weakness, either due to desire, or due to the illusion of doing some good to someone (which is the result of one’s ego), that a person falters and commits a blunder that becomes and also stays a big blot on their personality during their lifetime. Such an action actually stems from a person’s ignorance or mental weakness due to the distortion of reality in their mind. The reality is that everything is Maya or illusion. The world exists only until the mind exists and is conscious. People who are unconscious or asleep, despite being alive, are oblivious to everything around them and also about themselves. When the mind is not awake, nothing exists. The body, which many people mistake to be their self, is an impermanent vehicle that the Atman uses in order to travel through a Janma and the mind is nothing but an abstract tool that one can use in order to think and carry out actions which, unfortunately, have Karmic reactions.

A Janma or lifetime of a person is basically the time between the first and the last breaths they take during one sojourn of theirs as a particular person on the planet. Whatever people do, apart from trying to survive, is to be happy. But an extremely important truth to be noted is that anything that people think, say or do collects Karma which needs to be balanced some day or the other. Therefore, thinking clearly before performing any action is of crucial importance to one’s Karmic evolution.

But what exactly is it that leads people to do things that they would normally not do?
Ref:
SBG 3:36 Arjuna said: “What prompts a man to perform sinful deeds O descendant of Vrshni (Krishna)? Why does he commit such acts even without desiring to do them, as if he were forced to do them?”
SBG 3:37 Shri Bhagavan said: It is lust, which is born out of the quality called Rajas Guna that leads to anger which in turn prompts a person to commit sin. It is all devouring and greatly sinful. You must know that this is the greatest enemy in the world.

Lust for someone, for wealth or for power stems from ego which stands on one’s ignorance about the Supreme Truth of Universal Oneness and tells them that they are a separate entity.

There are basically three kinds of bliss or pleasure that a person can experience:
1. Physical
2. Mental
3. Spiritual

Physical and mental pleasures might, initially, seem attractive but lamentably, they don’t last long.

It is only spiritual bliss, which is founded on divine knowledge, that lasts forever. People come under the influence of temptations and commit deeds that they believe will make them happy. However, they realise a bit late that such things don’t last long but the damage they cause in one’s life and in one’s Karmic journey, only because they yielded to such temptations, can last a whole lifetime and longer.

Why do people fall for temptations?
16:21
त्रिविधं नरकस्येदं द्वारं नाशनमात्मनः |
कामः क्रोधस्तथा लोभस्तस्मादेतत्त्रयं त्यजेत् || १६ २१ ||
trividham narakasyedam
dvaaram naashana-maat-manaha
kaamaha krodhas-tathaa lobhas-
tasmaa detat trayam tyajet
(SBG 16:21)
There are three gates to destroying oneself – they are lust, anger, and greed. These three should therefore be given up.
————————————————
16:22
एतैर्विमुक्तः कौन्तेय तमोद्वारैस्त्रिभिर्नरः |

etair-vimuktaha kaunteya
tamod-vaarai-stribhirnaraha
aachara-tyaat-manaha shreyas-
tato yaati paraam gatim
(SBG 16:22)
A person who is liberated from these three gates of hell lives a life that is favourable for his soul and he goes to the Supreme goal!
————————————————
16:23
यः शास्त्रविधिमुत्सृज्य वर्तते कामकारतः |
न स सिद्धिमवाप्नोति न सुखं न परां गतिम् || १६ २३ ||
yah shaastra-vidhi-mutsrujya
vartate kaama kaarataha
na sa siddhi-mavaapnoti
na sukham na paraam gatim
(SBG 16:23)
A person who disregards the teachings of the scriptures and acts under the influence of desire, attains neither perfection, happiness nor the Supreme goal.
————————————————
16:24
तस्माच्छास्त्रं प्रमाणं ते कार्याकार्यव्यवस्थितौ |
ज्ञात्वा शास्त्रविधानोक्तं कर्म कर्तुमिहार्हसि || १६ २४ ||
tasmaach-chaastram pramaanam te
kaaryaa-kaarya-vyavasthitau
jnaatvaa-shaastra-vidhaanoktam
karma kartumi-haarhasi
(SBG 16:24)
Therefore, let the scriptures be the authority and guide to let you know what you should do and what you should not do. Acquire knowledge from the teachings of the scriptures; and live and work according to that knowledge in this world.

Just as death is an unavoidable part of life, are separation and pain inevitable parts of possession and attachment. Why be attached to someone or to something that is impermanent? Why not be attached to the Eternal and Supreme Bhagavan Krishna who is the personification of the Supreme Truth?

The only permanent reality is Divine Consciousness. Learn to experience the Supreme Bhagavan Krishna after which, no one or nothing can ever cause you sadness, pain, fear, anxiety or anger.

Shreyo bhooyaath sakala janaanaam
May all be blessed with peace and happiness.

Jai Shri Krishna
